The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Poland 2026™ is the second edition of the prestigious youth tournament to feature 24 teams, up from 16 prior to Colombia 2024. As a result, not only will the top two teams in each group advance to the knockout stage, but they will also be joined in the Round of 16 by the four best third-placed teams. Below, FIFA takes a closer look at the status of every team taking part in Poland 2026.

Group A
Poland have qualified for the Round of 16 after winning all three group games. The hosts will play Colombia in Bielsko-Biala on 17 September.
Argentina have also qualified for the Round of 16 after finishing second in the group and will face Korea Republic in Sosnowiec on 16 September.
Mexico and Benin are eliminated.
Group B
Brazil qualified as Group B winners after securing three straight victories. They will play USA in Katowice on 16 September.
England edged through in second ahead of Canada on account of having a superior team conduct score. They will face Nigeria in Bielsko-Biala on 17 September.
Canada have qualified as one of the best third-place teams and will face France in Lodz on 17 September.
Tanzania are eliminated.
Group C
France have qualified as group winners after winning two and drawing one of their matches. They will take on Canada in Lodz in the Round of 16 on 17 September.
Korea Republic have qualified as runners-up and will face Argentina in Sosnowiec on 16 September.
Ecuador and Ghana have been eliminated.
Group D
Italy have qualified for the Round of 16 as group winners after winning two and drawing one of their three matches. They will face China PR in Sosnowiec on 16 September.
Japan have qualified as runners-up and will take on DPR Korea in Lodz on 17 September.
USA have qualified as one of the best third-place teams. They will take on Brazil in Katowice on 16 September.
New Zealand are eliminated.
Group E
DPR Korea have qualified for the Round of 16 after winning all three group games. The defending champions will meet Japan in Lodz on 17 September.
Portugal progressed after finishing second in the group on goal difference. They will face Spain in Katowice on 16 September.
Colombia have qualified as one of the best third-place teams. They will face Poland in Bielsko-Biala on 17 September.
Costa Rica are eliminated.
Group F
Spain have qualified for the Round of 16 as group winners after winning all three group stage matches. They will face Portugal in Katowice on 16 September.
Nigeria have qualified as runners-up on goal difference over China PR. They will face England in Bielsko-Biala on 17 September.
China PR have qualified as one of the best third-place teams. They will face Italy in Sosnowiec on 16 September.
New Caledonia are eliminated.
What happens when teams have the same amount of points?
The top two teams in each of the six groups will reach the Round of 16. If two or more teams in the same group finish on equal points, the following criteria, in the order below, shall be applied to determine the ranking:
a) greatest number of points obtained in the group matches between the teams concerned;
b) superior goal difference resulting from the group matches between the teams concerned;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches between the teams concerned.
If, after having applied criteria a), b) and c), teams still have an equal ranking, criteria a), b) and c) are applied to the matches between the remaining teams only. If they are still equal, the following criteria, in the order below, shall be applied:
d) superior goal difference in all group matches;
e) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches;
f) best disciplinary record in accordance with the team conduct scores;
g) drawing of lots by FIFA.
How are the four best third-placed teams determined?
The four best teams among those ranked third will be determined as follows:
a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
b) goal difference resulting from all group matches;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches;
d) highest team conduct score (players and team officials);
e) drawing of lots by FIFA.
