Poland and Brazil look to continue momentum
The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2026™ continues on Tuesday with hosts Poland and Brazil seeking second consecutive victories, against Mexico and Canada respectively. Meanwhile, Benin are aiming to maintain their momentum after securing a last-gasp draw in their opener. Poland and Brazil can both qualify for the Round of 16 with a win.

Benin produced one of the biggest surprises of the opening round of group-stage matches, coming from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Mexico. Thanks to a brace from breakthrough star Romaine Gandonou, the Young Amazons claimed their first point of the tournament and will head into their meeting with Argentina full of confidence. For the South Americans, their second outing in Poland will be an opportunity to bounce back after a 3-0 defeat by the hosts in their opening match. Despite matching Poland for long periods, Christian Meloni's side lacked efficiency at both ends of the pitch and will be determined to show that their slow start was merely a blip.

Poland could hardly have dreamed of a better start on home soil. In front of their supporters, the hosts comfortably defeated Argentina and have already taken a significant step towards the Round of 16. Their objective will now be to build on that result against a Mexico side looking to get back on track after the disappointment of their opening match. Having led Benin 2-0 and appearing to be heading for victory, the Concacaf representatives were hit by a late fightback from the Young Amazons and had to settle for a single point from their opening game.

Brazil began with a bang by dispatching debutants Tanzania with ease in their opener. The South Americans did not get fully going until the second half in Bielsko-Biala but their 5ft 1in "giant" Evelin scaled new heights with her brilliant brace. In a battle of the Americas, they take on a Canada team who were just a minute away from defeating England before conceding an 89th-minute penalty. Annabelle Chukwu looked particularly dangerous at the start of her second U-20 showpiece.

Both teams are seeking their first victory after England salvaged a draw with Canada while Tanzania struggled against Brazil. England coach Lydia Bedford praised her side's resilience in fighting back to secure a late point in Bielsko-Biala. “[The penalty] helped us find the momentum we needed,” Bedford said. “Football isn’t about being perfect every time you set foot on the pitch; it’s about showing resilience as a team.” For Tanzania, the Young Lionesses represent another tough test at this level.
